Rare Diehl Railroad Wall Mount Fan Brass Blade Cage Electric Vintage Antique 12" For Sale
Up for sale is this rarely seen Diehl Railroadfan. This is a wall mount fan with brass blades and cage. Itsmotor housing and wall mount are cast iron. I am told these were hung in the railroad travel carsin the early 1900'sfor individual use. The fan blades are 12" across, 16" total height w/ mount and 8 " deep when mounted on wall.
The brass tag reads Diehl Manufacturing Company, Elizabethport, New Jersey, Style # 66P, serial # 549C23, volts 30.
The issues with the fan are the following: Fan is not currently running. Cast iron housing and mountlooks to have been painted gold color a long time ago . The inside motor casehas two metal bars that are pushed in against the axleby outside springs (not sure purpose of these bars, never seen these on GE's Westinghouse R&M etc..). One of these metal bars has been broke (see picture) it is a fairly clean break that could easily bewelded back togethe/ super glued?--the other bar is in perfect shape. The electrical wires obviously need replaced, they are brittle and bare in areas. It must of had some kind of switch plate and switch for the on off position (unless these were hardwired ?) It is missing one of the tinylittle elbow brace that holds the metal bracket to the Brass cage (upper left brace). Two of the s shaped cage wires look to have been welded-tacked to the round brass outer backframe ( did a good job I did not see this untill close inspection).
I have looked and looked everywhere for any info on this Model 66P wall mount Diehl fan and can't find any!!!!Inside of motor house looks good and clean. The fan blades turn very smoothand effortlessly. Headpivots up and down and side to side with ease. Brass blades are in excellent shape with no dings, cracks, etc.. No cracks in cast iron. Cage in good shape besides the things mentioned earlier (welding at the s wire attachments in two places).
If anyone has anymore infoabout this fandon't hesitate to email me.
Please take a close look at all pics and zoom in.
One rare fan for that collector to hang as is or restore. I have done nothing to this fan besides dust it off!!! Boy would she look nice all polished up though!!!!!
