RARE Dorflinger White House Crystal Tumbler President Harrison 1891 Am Brilliant:
$675.00

Up for sale is a very rare American Brilliant cut crystal goblet ordered by President Benjamin Harrison in 1891 and manufactured by C. Dorflinger & Sons of Pennsylvania, the premier crystal manufacturer of the era. It is amazing in detail and quality and bears the presidential shield, an eagle with the banner E. Pluribus Unum. The glassware is of the Russian cut, popular at that time. Interestingly, the eagle on the coat of arms faces it\'s left shoulder, the reverse of the eagle on the seal on the Harrison china (and other presidential seals I have seen.)
I am listing this historic tumbler for a friend. Her great grandfather was the head groundskeeper for the White House during the Benjamin Harrison administration. He aquired this beautiful piece of crystal and it has been passed along the generations.
I have had this in my office for months researching the pattern. I finally had luck finding a match at the John F. Kennedy presidential museum. They suggested I contact the Corning museum of glass in New York. A woman in their research department emailed me an article which I feel confirms the authenticity of the tumbler as one from the Harrison administration. I will include a copy of the article when I ship the item. I also spoke with the director of the Dorflinger Museum. He confirmed it\'s authenticity and informed me it was referred to as a Brandy and soda glass and may have been a reorder item from the Roosevelt administration. He did point out a flaw I was unaware of, the rim of the glass has been ground down approximately half an inch, probably because of chips. If you look at photo 11 you will notice the difference between my listing and one at the museum. Glasses with flaws may have been given away which is how this one probably ended up in private hands. If in perfect condition this glass would be worth six to eight thousand dollars. Even with its imperfections it is a wonderful example of white house history.

The glass measures 5\" tall and is 2.75\" wide at the mouth. It is heavy for it\'s size at 12.5 ounces. It will be shipped double boxed, special handling designation and fully insured.PLEASE NOTE: because I cannot insure international shipments this item is available to U.S. buyers only...NO INTERNATIONAL BUYERS FOR THIS LISTING PLEASE.
