Upfor sale is a beautifully decorated ChineseFamille Rose octagonalsauce tureendating to the Qianlong period circa 1780. The sauce tureenis finely painted with a central scene of a womanpoling her boaton a river with carp and ducks swimming nearby and with an oriental style building opposite. This rare pattern withthis building is thought toshow the Santa, Sophia Mosque in Istanbul, Turkey. An almost identical dinner service sold lastfall at Dukes sale in England on Sept 27-28, lot # 519 and they discuss the building attribution. If youresearchthe mosque online you can see that there is no doubt as to the connection. Thesauce tureenhas a wonderful underglaze blue border on the outer rim which is very complex.The sauce tureen has nice boar\'s head handles and is from apart dinner service in thispattern we are offering selected items from for this week. The sauce tureenmeasures7inches or about17.8 cm length from handle to handle andis in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, or repairs.The gold highlights are in excellent condition.There are some skips to the glaze on the edge of the lid from the original manufacture.
