Description

  • Item: Here is a very rare and unusual item! It is a CDV of Frederick Coombs! First, let us talk about Mr. Coombs. He was born in New York and believed to be a phrenologist though he was an accomplished photographer, daguerreotypist, inventor, etc. Stories differ, but either he claimed to be George Washington, or because people thought he looked likeGW, he started believing he was. The back of the CDV states that "F. Coombsmaking a free gift to the World of the Electric Telegraph," so he must have made some type of (or claimed to) contribution in this field (we could not find any additional information). Google Mr. Coombs there is a ton of interesting information on him. The CDV itself is very interesting! We believe F. Coombs is the man at the center right of the photo. He looks to be dressed as George Washington and is leaning on something. There are three men at the center of the photo and we think ablack man on horse in the background. Also, to the right, are three or four ghostly figures. Very odd and unusual. The center monument looks to be Abraham Lincoln. We could not figure out exactly where the photo was taken. Maybe some information will come in. Please check our other sales for more photos! Please read condition below. More neat stuff in our store!
