Up for sale isaRARE, RARE, RARE pair of18thCenturyEnglish Georgiansterling silverCandlesticks made inthe city of Sheffieldin 1784 by Thomas Lamborn. The reason these sticks are so rare is that they are struck with a sixth hallmark, the Duty Drawback mark which was struck on exported silver onlY from December 1, 1784 to July 24, 1785. In over 25 years this is the first piece of silver we have owned with this mark. The candlesticks are sterling silver, but weighted. There are a few fairly minor condition issues. Several dents as shown are present as is some very old minor solder at the base of the stem of one and on the foot of one. These sticks have not been polished so we feel after polishing the solder will be much less noticeable. They are a very respectful pair of candlesticks that are sturdy and would be a greatasset to any collection of early English silver. Both sticks arewell hallmarked as shown, and each is engraved with an original crest of a crowned bull as shown in the photos. The sticks are large, measuring 11 1/2 inches tall and 5 3/8 inches across the base. We did not weigh them since they are weighted, but they are solid.
