FOR saleI AM PLEASED TO OFFER THIS LOVELY ANTIQUE KING GEORGE THE THIRD SILVER SERVING SPOON MADE BY THE SOUGHT AFTER AND HIGHLY COLLECTED LADY SILVERSMITH HESTER BATEMAN. HESTER BATEMAN WAS KNOWN FOR HER QUALITY SILVERWARES AND BECAME VERY SUCCESSFUL AND HIGHLY REGARDED AS A SILVERSMITH, AND LATER GETTING MOST OF HER FAMILY INVOLVED IN THE BUSINESS, AND LEAVING A LASTING LEGACY. THE SPOON IS IN VERY GOOD CONDITION WITH JUST A VERY VERY SMALL BRUISE TO THE BOWL WHICH YOU CAN HARDLY SEE AND SOME LIGHT SURFACE SCRATCHES THAT ARE CONSISTENT WITH OVER 225 YEARS OF AGE. THE BOWL IS IN IT'S ORIGINAL FORM AND NOT MIS SHAPED AND THE HANDLE IS ALSO STRAIGHT AND IN ITS ORIGINAL FORM. THE SPOON IS IN THE OLD ENGLISH PATTERN AND IT IS A QUALITY PIECE OF SILVER WITH A STRONG AND SOLID GAUGE OF SILVER. IT HAS A STRONG SOLID DROP, WHERE THE HANDLE MEETS THE BOWL, AND THIS HAS THE PERIOD INITIALS OF "W.I.M" ON IT. IT IS ALSO SLIGHTLY BIGGER AND HEAVIER THAN SIMILAR SPOONS. THE HALLMARKS ARE BEAUTIFULLY STRUCK AND ARE VERY CLEAR AND CRISP. THERE IS THE LION PASSANT FOR STERLING SILVER THEN THE LEOPARDS HEAD FOR THE LONDON ASSAY OFFICE, THE DATE LETTER M FOR THE YEAR 1787, KING GEORGE THE THIRD'S HEAD AS THE DUTY MARK AND FINALLY THE VERY SOUGHT AFTER MARK HB FOR HESTER BATEMAN. IT MEASURES 23 CENTIMETERS OR 9 INCHES LONG, THE BOWL IS 8 CENTIMETERS LONG BY 4.5 CENTIMETERS AT IT'S WIDEST POINT. THE SPOON WEIGHS A HEAVY 72.4 GRAMS WHICH IS AROUND 2.5 OUNCES. A RARE AND COLLECTIBLE SPOON IN VERY GOOD CONDITION AND MADE BY A HIGHLY SOUGHT AFTER SILVERSMITH.
