VERY hard-to-find in this unusually LARGE size, this vintage egg is likely an OLD CANDY STORE DISPLAY piece.

Marked MADE IN WESTERN GERMANY on the red, TOILE paper interior lining, this is circa 1930s to 1950s.

Like most others of its ilk, this is made of "paperboard" (i.e., steamed & pressed/molded paper), or, some say 'paper mache'.

The paper covering is a familiar & very appealing floral w/ butterflies design, on a REFLECTIVE GOLD background.

The [whopping!] measurements for this rare beauty are: 13"L x 8.5"W (side-to-side) x 8.75"H (top-to-bottom) as the egg sits on a surface.

The bottom half is INDENTED so the egg will sit securely on a surface & not "roll".

Overall in VERY GOOD condition for its age, there are some scuffs to the red "borders" where the two halves meet. Also,on the TOP half, at one end, are a couple of scuffswhere the decorative paper covering is now gone (see last photo). This "damage" area measuresONLY 1.25"L x .5"W - & you really have to look for it tosee it!
