Rare J. Rabone & Sons Bone And German Silver Folding Architects Rule - 4 Fold:
Please see the pictures below the description
You are offerding on a rare folding ox bone and German silver architects rule by J. Rabone & Sons which I beleive dates from the late 1800s to the early 1900s. It is four fold and 24" long when opened. First, I will say this rule is exactly as I found it and I have made no attempt to clean it or do anything else with it - I believe any work should be done by somebody who knows what they are doing. Brief points to note are that it has yellowed in places with age and that the outer faces have some wear in the centre area. Most of the graduations and digits are still visible, although a bit shallower than the rest of the rule. There is one area, however, around the inner side of the 14" to 16" mark, where the graduations are not visible, but the numerals and lines running the length of the rule are. All the graduations and numerals on the inside of the rule are excellent. The hinges, with the exception of one, are stiff, but appear undamaged and the German silver parts are tarnished. There is a small rust stain by one hinge from the steel hinge pin. One locating pin is missing and the other one looks a bit shorter than it should be. There is a very slight bow on one side. All these points can be seen in the photos. The actual ox bone looks to have no physical damage, being free from cracks and chips, although there are small grooves by the pin locating holes where it has been closed. Please see the pictures below
Please note post and packing charges are given for both the UK and overseas.
If you are offerding on any of my other sales, I will combine postage on multiple items.
All UK items will be sent, unless otherwise stated, by Royal Mail 1st Class Recorded. All items, if under the maximum weight limit of 2kg when packed, will be sent overseas by Royal Mail Airmail International 'Signed For' service unless otherwise stated. Items are now sent this way to conform to /Paypal regulations that safeguard both the buyer and the seller. This can make the shipping charge, particularly for overseas buyers, higher than possibly expected as the Recorded/Signed For service adds £1.10 to UK postage and £5.30 to overseas postage. I can accept no responsibility in the very rare event that items get lost in the post, but I will endeavour to do all I can to help the buyer by contacting Royal Mail and getting them to do the necessary search. Please be aware that it is illegal to falsify the value or contents on Customs documentation and under no circumstances will I do this. Overseas buyers are responsible for all duties and taxes, if applicable, that are levied by their Customs.
