Rare Jesuit Reductions Period Antique 18th Century Complete Catholic Crucifix For Sale
This
cross was acquired in Argentina from a Jesuit priest that has gifted it to us
for sale; it is in superb antique condition.
The
cross is 6 inches long, and made of solid bronze with thick ebony inlays; it is
of the type made in the Papal States for the Jesuit order priests.
A
Jesuit Reduction was a type of settlement for indigenous people in Latin
America created by the Jesuit Order during the 17th and 18th centuries. They
were primarily in an area that corresponds to modern day Paraguay but later
reductions were extended into areas now part of Argentina, were the cross has
been in a private collection; we will provide its provenance to the winning
buyer upon request.
