RARE MATCHING PAIR OF MESSENGERS DUPLEX KEROSENE WALL LAMPS, COMPLETE, WORKING,:

Up for sale is this matching pair of Messengers tinplate wall mounting paraffin / kerosene oil lamps. Both have attractive brass labels to front, Messengers own special patent fuel filler with pivoting cover plate, and Messengers patent No 2 raiser-and-extinguisher Duplex burners. The burners have raiser keys for lighting without taking the chimney off and extinguisher levers so you dont have to blow down the chimneys to blow them out.

They also have their original matching curved glass, 6 inch diameter rear silvered mirror reflectors, each mounted in a tinplate carrier. These are so often lost or broken as they can drop off when the lamps are handled carelessly .

NO leaks, NO dents and no missing bits. All 4 wicks wind up and down smoothly, all the extinguishers work. The only damage is slight foxing / speckling to the upper edge of one reflector, see picture 3 . Both burners retain their cork lining to the base ( more to do with reducing heat transfer to the lamp than sealing the opening )

Both lamps are fitted with proper \'oval duplex\' chimneys, both of which are marked \'Griffin Brand\'

Lamps stand 15&1/2 inches tall including chimneys, 7 inches max projection from the wall ( the raiser key ) and 6 inches wide ( diameter of the reflectors ).

These burn cleanly and with wide, intensely bright flames . Messengers burners are the equal of their better known Birmingham rivals, Hinks . With the reflectors in place they will light quite a large room, 16 by 20 feet when placed fairly high. ( taking care not to burn the ceiling , see below )

Ideal for small rooms where there is not space for table lamps, shepherds huts ( wealthy senior shepherds only ) showman\'s waggons and narrowboats.

Sent ready to use with instructions. These burn cleanly if clean paraffin is used. Care must be taken in use, need approx 2 feet clear space above chimneys , more if wooden ceiling, a little less possible if you use smoke consumers (smoke tops / baffles ) on the chimneys.

Hard to find in good condition, even harder to find in pairs !
