Terrific painted miniature carving of a great blue heron, by late Peter Peltz of Sandwich, Massachusetts. Mounted on a driftwood base, signed on the bottom PETER PELTZ. Meticulously painted in great detail. Peter Peltz was born in Albany, New York. He taught briefly at Mount Herman School in Northfield, Massachusetts. He served in the Pacific in the Navy during World War II, and it was then that he began bird carving. In 1952, he moved to Sandwich on Cape Cod, and began to sell birds from his home and barn which he named “The Bird Barn.” Jacqueline Kennedy was among the collectors of his works. .
