Rare Miniature Royal Doulton Match Striker Silver Fire Bucket Fireman Engine:
This is for afabulousand hard to findlittleVictorian miniature fire bucket match holder made by Doulton. The bucket has a dark brown finish that looks like leather that has been marked with 'Fire' in bright orange. This rangeof ceramics is known as leatherware and was produced from the 1880s. It looks like there are small brass pins down the sides and around the bottom rim which replicate the rivets on an old leather bucket perfectly and which must have been difficult to achieve in theceramic process. The bucket has a leather handle and sterling silver rim which carries a full set of English sterling silver hallmarks that date it to Chester 1892 along with the makers initials CS*FS for Cornelius Desormeaux Saunders & James Francis Hollings (Frank) Shepherd. The base of the bucket is marked 'Doulton, made in England, 7636' along with a registered design number 190696 which dates to the same time as the silver. It is in excellent condition with no damage to it anywhere and hardly any wear, there are no cracks or chips andthe finish to the bucketis intact, as is the bright orange paint. It measures 35mm (1.3") in diameter at the top and stands 48mm nearly 2" tall not measuring the handle.
