Rare Nautical Ships Wheel Anchor Chatelaine Thimble Case Scissors Aide Memoire For Sale
This is for a veryrare and unusual oldVictorian chatelaine with a strong nautical theme circa 1870. It is eithergun metal or tarnished silver, i am not sure which and i don't want to start polishing it. It is a very unique and very well made piecewith gilded brass appliqués to the pieces and chains set to look like ropes. It has an anchor on the clip at the topthat is joined to a central ships wheel, which is the hub of the piece,from the wheel hangs and aide memoireNeptune'strident on the front and two different styles of buoy one a pin cushion and the other a thimble case, there is a scissors sheath with scissors inside and a needle case too. The buoy that is the thimble case has a hinged lid with gold rope detailing around the top edge andit islined in velvet with a thimble inside.The aide memoire slides apartto reveal twp panels of natural material for writing on and the sheath at the base olds a pair of scissors.The scissors are marked 'Farthing' and the clip is stamped with a makers mark that has MT with two little dots over itin a square. It is all in absolute excellent condition with no damage to it anywhere, there are no dents in the metal, no damage to the chains and it alldisplays magnificently.It measures 380mm (15.5") long, the thimble case is 40mm (1.5") tall by 25mm (1") in diameter at the top.
