Rare Named Wwii Canadian Airborne Foo Battle Dress Jacket And Beret :
For sale is an excellent condition, lightly usedand exceedingly rare WWII Canadian Battle Dress Jacket that isnamed to aCapt D.H. McMillan, a CANLOAN Parachute-qualifiedForward Observation Officer (FOO)who particpated in theRhine jump (Operation Varsity)and served initially withthe British 8 Parachute Battalionbefore finishing out the campaign with the famed 1st Canadian Parachute Battalion. Size 8, 1944 dated BDJacket comes with a notethat came with itthat states McMillian's record and this particular uniform was a deassession from Aldershot Airborne museum in 1993.The jacket comes complete with all Parachute machine-stitched insignia -- the jump wings and printed Pegasus flashes are applied this way. The officer'spips,"Royal Artillery" and "Canada" titles are all nicely hand-sewn. All insignia isnicely "married" to the jacket as you would expect of an original piece. The jacket's markings are legibleand McMillan's name is nicely written inside. The cotton collar lining has a fine separation from wear on the inside of the right side as worn. Other than that, it shows light wear only. The BD Blouse comes with a matching wartime period Maroon wool Paratrooper beret with original applied Officer's Royal Artillery embroidered cap badge on red wool backing material. There are no markings in the beret that I can find, but based on construction and materials used plus the correct wartime floppy circumference, there is no doubt it is a wartime piece. Remnents of the cloth tag in the bag remain -- making it most likely a British-made Kangol example. The cap badge is nicely backed on the inside with padding on the inside to provide the correct stiffnessto thebadge as it is worn -- a really sharpand unique detail. The wear to the beret matches the BD perfectly. Both items came from Army Outfitters, a very reputable high-end dealer in WWII Canadian uniforms in Toronto, Canada.Original, badged BDs are rare and those named to an Airborne soldier are exceedingly so. This is very researchable and itwould be very difficult to upgrade. Additional pictures can also be supplied upon request. Perfect for the advanced WWII British/Commonwealthcollector.
