Fine antiquefrench violin made in Mirecourt circa 1850 branded \"M.N\".

Fine and beautiful antique french 19th century violin certainly made in Mirecourt circa 1850. A very fine example of the Mirecourt production at the time, remembering the work of makers like Laurent Bourlier. The top is made of two parts of spruce and shows regular and narrow grain lines widening towards the edges. The back is made of two pieces of flamed maple. The ribs, neck and head are of the same wood. The neck and head are original to the instrument. The luminous varnish is of an orange-brown colour on a golden ground, and shows a fantastic patina on the top, showing that the violin was stored for decades untouched, and giving the violin a great charm.

The violin is in an excellent condition, with old repairs to the head (cheeked on each side) and a little loss of edge and purfling at the lower right of the back (used by the chinrest which was probably at this place). Otherwise there isn\'t any crack on top, back and ribs.

The instrument has been set with a Despiau bridge, an ebony tailpiece with bone fret, the matching chinrest and Thomastik Dominant strings.The rosewood pegs and endpin are older (probably 19th century). There is no label in the violin, but on the lower back of the head has been fire branded the initials \"M N\". We have made some researches but couldn\'t find a maker having used this brand at this curious location.

The sound of the instrument is beautiful, a warm anddeep sound, resonating and responding, a real french 19th century wonder with a lot of sensitivity and softness!
