NEPHRITE JADE (MING)

Upfor sale is a fine specimen of ancient Chinese carved nephritejade. This lovely piece appears to be a standing woman dressed in garments and holding a scroll up near her flowing long hair tied in a poneytail. It may have been intended as an amulet as there is one hole discretely carved near the top of the staff under the hair. This jade piece is a beautiful blend of green celadon nephrite with an elegant touch of golden russet. It is a wonderfulpiece of ancient art. The pictures portray the actual item that is up for sale.The dimensions are approximately 2 & 3/8\" inches in height x 1 & 1/4\" inches in width x 5/8\" inches in thickness. It weighs 59.18 grams. It has been specific gravity tested with sensitive measuring instruments. Specific gravity of 3.02 is consistent with that of nephrite jade. It is authentic jade with a most interesting provenance. It is from the Arthur W. Kessler collection. This piece is believed to be from the 16th or 17th century Ming Dynasty.We have just started listing the jade pieces from a magnificent collection.
