Rare Old Antique Roaring Lion Head German Christmas Tree Ornament, 1890's Era For Sale
RARE Old Antique ROARING LION HEAD German Christmas Tree Ornament, 1890's Era. This is a fairly large old animal head ornament. The lion head is mainly pink with a wide-open red mouth. This early blown glass ornament is 3 1/4" tall and 2 1/4" wide. Animal head ornaments are fairly rare, as there weren't too many different types made. Some of the ones that WERE made relate to the CIRCUS, which was at its hey-day in Victorian America & Europe. CONDITION: The lion's face is in very fine condition. The overall paint is very colorful with some minor wear, and remaining paint is stable. There are some age spots.There was a hole on the UPPER BACK of the lion head that was 1/2" in diameter, and it has been professionally restored. The restored area looks very nice and is a sound repair. (It is also in the area least likely to show when the ornament is hung on the tree.) Please view all 12 photos.
