Original & RARE in this great condition, Civil War Confederate CSA Polygonal Cavity 12lb shell fragment. Developed by Confederate Capt J. W, Mallet in 1862 this round ball was fired from 12lb Napoleon smoothbore cannons and designed with internal scoring to blow into these shaped fragments. This one is very clean and is from the top of the Polygonal shell where the fuse was placed. Fragment is heavy, approx 3\" across and 1/2\" thick with fuse hole at center.
