This is for asuperb old Victorian papier mache snuff box with a fabulous black and white image on the lid of a building in Skipton in Yorkshire. The building is advertising the 'Craven Herald, printing, bookbinding, machine ruling, die stamping works' and the shop front shows 'Craven Herald Office, steam printing works' above the door. The Craven Herald printed newspapers from1853 until 1868 when it changed its name and printed weekly publications.The image is lovely and clear and undamaged with plenty of detailing. The box is also inexcellent condition with no cracks at all, the hinge works as it should with the lid sitting tight and flush against the base. There is a small chip near the hinge on the inside but really that is all.It measures 75mm nearly (3") by 36mm (1.5") by 22mm (1") deep.
