Vintage lighter mounted on early Sir Walter Raleigh tobacco tin. Factory made and very rare item possibly a commemorative or promotional item. Marked inside and under lid: S.G.Guinn Mfg. Co. Johnson City Tenn. patented. The first patent for a mechanical lighter was granted to Ronson in 1910 and a patent for the first flint lighter was granted to Sam Guinn in 1917.
The only other exact lighter I could find sold online and the tin container was in very poor damaged condition and as can be seen this one is in very good condition with only a few minor expected rub marks and dings none of which are an issue.
The one online also had the exact same damage this has on the sides of the pot metal lighter assembly so this must have been a common problem. This has three holes on the edge of the cover and appear to hold the cover on. It is also heavy and appears to be filled with sand. Measures overall 10" tall including lighter lever.
