A very interesting and important..very early pair cased watch. with a verge, fusee movement.with interesting square pillars.broad balance,with a nice low makers number serviced. Made by Abraham Benson,LondonA Listed maker. C 1744 VERY WELL PRICED!!! PLEASE DO TAKE TIME TO READ THE FULL LISTING AND DO ENLARGE THE PHOTOGRAPHS TO GET A BETTER LOOK. SORRY FOR ANY REFLECTION. CASE. The outer silver case is in nice condition the measurement of the case is 46 m.m edge to edge.The case has a very nice good watch paper and nice to round off this fine watch. The inner silver casewith the watch measurement is 39 m.m, and is also in nice condition. Both cases are hallmarked silver for London 1744. All thehinges and clips work well on the case. The weight of the watch is 87 grms nice weight for this size of verge watch. DIAL. Thewhite enameldialwith Roman numerals for the hours and Arabic divisionsfor the minutes. PLEASE NOTE THE MARK AT 6 IS THE CATCH TO LIFT THE DIAL. HANDS.veryfine black beetle and poker hands. GLASS. The glassisvery high domed bull nose clean and clear, MOVEMENT. The fire gilt movement is currently runningit just goes to show what afine watchmaker Abraham Benson was to havemade this watch for it to run so well after all these years, keeping verge time. It runsto the full length of the chain. The fire gilt movement is signedon the back plate ABR BENSON LONDON with a nice low number 1096,with a very ornatelyengraved and pierced broad balance cock with a silver Tompion regulator, and very interesting square pillars. The movement is nice and clean and looks as if it has just left the makers as it has just been serviced. the watchhas a very strong tick. it will come with a nice old key by J. Beckwith of Silsden as shown . The Abraham Benson is well listed in " Watchmakers and Clockmakers Of The World" by G H Baille and Brian Loomes. Just greatto havesuch an interesting watch that is as goodas thisone, and it just has every thing one could want on a fine verge watch, very hard to find a watch in this condition with all that it has going for it.
