Rare Vintage Villeroy & Boch Mettlach German Beer Stein #1266 For SaleVilleroy & Boch Mettlach German beer stein with lid #1266An antique Mettlach “Drinking Scenes” beer stein made by Villeroy & Boch at the Mettlach Abbey in Germany . The stein has four panels with a brown colored background, three of which have different drinkers in applied relief and one behind the handle with grape vines. The pewter lid has a ceramic inlay with the six-pointed star of the brewer’s guild and what appears to be a bunch of grapes, again in applied relief. The stein is about 6 inches tall overall (4½ inches to the rim) and has a diameter of 3¾ inches at the wide part (3¼ inches at the rim). Condition: The stein and the decorations are in good condition. There is a crack in the lid and inside the stein near the handle. inside of thestein is pure white except for the underside of the lid inlay which is stained. The pewter part of the lid has no dents or dings and the hinge and strap have some play. Markings: The base of thestein is properly marked with the green Mercury mark, the incised mold number “1266”, an “1” (a mystery figure) and “00” for the year made (1903). There is an incised Roman numeral “11” designating this as a 0.5 literstein.
