The Tin Decorating Company of Baltimore (TINDECO) was in business from 1914 to 1965. They were the largest tin decorating company in the world, and were an almost self-sufficient town within their factory walls. Tin lithography was a dangerous business to its workers, and most lost a finger or two during their working lives. Tindeco hired the finest illustrators to design their lithographs for their tin pieces and collectors always look for the vintage and antique tins from this company. They made several series of small holiday candy tins for Halloween, Christmas and Easter in the 1930's, usually in a base color of aqua blue (the Halloween tin however was I believe, black). The Easter tins are the most common, while the Christmas and Halloween are less common and more sought after. This listing is for a 1930's Christmas tin, and it is marvelous! This one is "The Night Before Christmas", and features a rather short stocky Santa on the lid, as well as Santa and his reindeer on the side. This one is still shiny - it has some light surface scratches and small dents, but nothing too significant. The lithography has faded a bit - Santa's suit is a bit orange. There is some slight discoloration and slight surface rust along the edges, but again, not too significant. These tins were often well loved, and most lose their handles, have big dents and lots of rust. The size is small, measuring 4 1/2" long x 2 1/2"wide and stands 2 1/4" tall. It is a beautiful Christmas piece from the 1930's and is stamped Tindeco on the bottom. I have lots of other vintage Christmas items, so take a look!
