DETAILS OF ITEM
This is a rare model ship of the Ivaran Americana that measures approximately 17.5 inches from bow to stern and 3 inches from port to starboard. The case measures 19.25 inches long by 4.5 inches wide by 7 inches high. It was made almost entirely out of wood and metal.
Once deemed the “World's Most Luxurious Passenger/Container Ship,” the M/V Americana was in a class of its own. Having been built in South Korea 1988, it was Ivaran Lines idea to combine the two businesses into this one ship. With a minimum of over 50 passengers, this ship would qualify as a passenger cruise ship with preferential rights of berthing. Her route was between the USA and South America with the southern most port in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
The cabins were stately and spacious. It could accommodate a maximum of 88 passengers in 52 cabins ranging in size from 134 to 500 square feet. It had a card room, a library, a common dining area, a lounge & bar, a small gym, some slot machines and gambling on select casino nights. The Sundeck had a pool and whirlpool. Though the rest of the ship was built for container storage, there was no promenade deck. Instead, there was a walkway on both sides of the ship that lead under the stacked containers through to the bow of the ship, an area that was quiet and private since it was blocked by the containers of a view from the bridge.
As a container vessel, there were no stabilizers which meant that the most comfortable passengers were those accustom to having sea legs. When 12 or more passengers were on the ship, a doctor and nurse were required to be on board. The nurse also doubled as part of the entertainment having been from Norway and performing Norwegian folk dances.
The condition of this model is very good.
