Up for your consideration is this c.1939-1948 HEDDON #600 5 FT. 2-pc SPLIT-BAMBOO BAIT ROD w/BAG & TUBE. This sale includes the Heddon #600-5-2½-F Rod, Correct Blue Rod Bag, and Heddon Rod Tube carefully packaged for the winner. The rod comes from our good friend WC and his lifelong collection of 65+ years. WC has been collecting Antique Hunting & Fishing gear since he was a kid. Our good friend has been a member of his local 'Fur, Fin, & Feather' Hunting Club for over 60 years. Watch for various Bamboo Rods, Catalogs, Lures, and lots lots more!
**** SPECIAL NOTE: Pretty sure this little gem is ALL-ORIGINAL as indicated by the general use marks up and down the rod shaft. This has the RED & BLACK wraps all-around. All parts are believed original on the rod. The bag is correctly marked and matches the markings on the rod.
#600 ROD MARKINGS: The rod is marked: Heddon diagonal across the top flats. One flat is marked: #600-5'-2½-F. The reel seat areas don't appear to be marked on this version. The tag on the blue rod bag matches the rod. See close-up photo of tag. The exact age is unknown but believed to be from the NEO-CLASSIC ERA c.1939-1948 era. Photos are mostly flash-off, some do have flash-on and tend to look darker.
#600 ROD MEASUREMENTS: Total length assembled aprox. 5 FT. or 60" (inches). HANDLE section 26-1/8". TIP section 34-1/2". Cork Handle/Grip areas total 11-1/8" to end of winding check. Cork butt-grip areas 4-3/4". Cork fore-grip 2-1/4". Reel Seat 3-7/8". Female ferrule 2-5/8" exposed. Male ferrule 1-3/4" long exposed. ROD BAG: 43" long total including fold over flap by 4" wide taper. Tube: 36-1/4" long by 2" diameter.
#600 ROD CONDITION: We'll start at the butt of the rod and work our way to the tip. We provide detailed photos below in order from the butt to the tip! While inspecting a rod we look for all blemishes and signs of use. The cork grip areas are in fine condition with much of the original patina intact. Reel seat in very good condition with general use hairline scratching. All hardware is the Chrome plate with light scattered aging. ALL wraps and line-guides intact including the tip. The ferrules fit together and 'pop' when pulled apart. Every bamboo part is what we refer to as "Rock Solid". No cracks or weakness found in any bamboo part. General use marks are noted all up and down the rod shaft. All-original means used! This is thick varnish which is gooey in some areas from storage. Both rod shaft markings are fully readable and with-out damage to the markings. In our opinion this is a beautiful old Heddon #600! Rod is fully serviceable and ready for use upon receipt if so desired. THE BAG: This is the correct bag in very fine condition. The bag has some red stains near the fold over flap areas. Most likely the red ties have bled onto the blue areas at some pint during it's lifetime. No serious damage found. No holes, no tears, all seams in tact. The side tag is slight faded but is fully readable as seen in one photo. THE ROD TUBE: This is a brown heavy weight cardboard tube with no cap. The Heddon label is very worn as seen. We can only make out the 5 ft. marking on the tube but do believe this to be the correct tube for the rod. Again, cap lost long ago, no cap! The brown textured paper over-top the outside has scattered areas where the paper has peeled away or is torn off. The tube itself is rock solid and heavy weight. The tube has done well in protecting this beautiful old #600. Good overall used condition with general wear and aging for the tube. This is great Heddon history right before your very eyes! The WC rod collection will continue to list so stay tuned-in to the pluglady56 & gfries04 accounts! Keep watching for more great items like this from this collection!
