This silver William Jennings Bryan dollar was struck by the famous Spaulding & CompanyGold and Silversmiths.The Bryan dollar is stamped “A Government Dollar contains 412 ½ grains Coin Silver 900/1000 Fine. This piece contains 823 Grains Coin Silver 900/1000 Fine and in value is the equivalent of One Gold Dollar, Sept. 16, 1896.”On the reversethe name C.C. SOLLITT is engraved. C.C. Sollitt was Christopher Columbus Sollitt a prominant 19th Century Pharmacologist from Kansas.In 1896 the Nation was torn over “Bimetallism” that would include Silver and Gold as legal tender. Presidential nominee William Jennings Bryan gave the famous “Cross of Gold” speech arguing for silver dollars.
