In Nice Working Condition
This is an RCA Victor Radiola III Regenerative Receiver from around 1924. It uses two WD-11 tubes (not included), or it can be used with the less expensive 199 or 864 tubes using base adaptors (not included). The Radiola III uses the patented Armstrong regenerative grid leak detector giving it the performance of a radio with a higher tube count.
This is an earlier model that has its grid leak resistor mounted in line with the antenna capacitors instead of stacked on top of them. (see interior photos)
ü Overall: Good, complete, clean, and in working order.
ü Bakelite panel: There are no chips, cracks, gouges, or major scratches on the Bakelite panel.
ü Station Selector Lever: Shows some surface pitting in its plating. (see photos)
ü Panel engraving: Engraved lettering is well filled and legible.
ü Tube shock mounts: Soft, sturdy, and pliable.
ü Tubes: The tubes shown in the photos were used for testing and are being sold separately in another listing.
ü Logo decal: Very good. (see photos).
ü Serial number: Stamped crisply into the bottom of the cabinet.
ü Interior: Clean with no rust on panel mounting hardware or tube socket brackets.
ü Audio transformer: Original, tested and working.
ü Cloth covered power cable: Original length, very flexible, no fraying on outer jacket, complete with metal tags.
ü Cabinet: Original finish, rubber feet excellent, no cracks or loose joints.
ü This set been well cared for, and appears to have been stored in a clean and dry non smoking Environment. Overall, this radio is clean, rust free and in good operating condition.
This radio has been powered up and tested using a 30 foot antenna. It plays well with the usual hooting and howling associated with early regenerative receivers. It can be used with headphones and is also capable of driving a horn speaker with moderate volume.
Note: When buying a 1920’s battery radio with more than one tube, always ask the seller if the audio transformer(s) has been tested. More than half the time, the transformer(s) in these old sets is bad, and the radio will not play. The transformer in this set is original, tested and in working condition.
This 1924 Radiola III Receiver plays well, displays well and will be a standout in any collection.
I make every attempt to describe items completely and accurately, and to show any flaws clearly in the photographs. Questions are invited and will be answered promptly.
