Recalled Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Color #1 Pgx (not Cgc) 9.8 Misprint/error For Sale
This listing from a smoke free home is for a PGX 9.8 (NM/MT) copy of the exceptionally rare MISPRINT/RECALLED/ERROR EDITION VARIANT of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #1, Color Special Edition. PGX assigned the perfect "WHITE Pages" page quality designation, making this the best 9.8 grade possibly attainable. PGX has denoted the book with "Recalled Edition" on the label. Recalled comics are prized by collectors for their comparable rarity, especially in the top condition grades which adds further to their collectability. PGX is a competing professional grading service to CGC, and similarly encases the books in a tamper-evident plastic holder. The PGX holder provides an inner holder with the label sealed within (guaranteeing no one could switch out the label), complete with security hologram, which is encased in a strong plastic outer holder to ensure the pristine condition of the comic remains intact — the comic's owner can then handle the holder without ever worrying about causing one iota of stress to the comic itself the way a normal bagged-and-boarded book would if you put your thumb in the wrong spot or accidentally drop the book (PGX's holder by contrast can literally be dropped directly onto concrete without any damage to the comic's condition). So when you win this sale, not only are you getting a copy of this rare recalled comic book in perfect 9.8 condition, you're also getting the peace of mind that comes with the PGX holder and a third party professional grading company assigning the grade.
ABOUT THIS ISSUE
The first TMNT appearance is one of the most valued and highly sought after comics of all time, and so naturally the publisher found a ready market for a great number of additional printings — the first three printings were oversized and featured the classic red, black, and white cover. The fourth and fifth print featured variant covers and additional material; then Mirage stopped putting out new reprints of the #1 issue for a 17 year period, followed by a 2005 comic con printing of 3000 copies, and then a "free comic book day" printing. Then, in honor of the 25th anniversary, they set out to make a very special reprint, publishing this key issue in full color for the first time (and I must say, that classic cover looks simply awesome in full color). But the initial batch were accidentally printed with a test pattern on interior pages and some copies made it out to retailers before Mirage noticed the problem; a recall/destroy notice was issued immediately. I have seen other items claiming the misprint is more rare than the original #1 issue from 1984, and everything I have seen and read supports this: There were a thousand copies printed (so from the start that's a third of the print run of the original #1 issue from 1984), and survival count for the misprint following the recall notice is estimated at various online comic book resources to be in the mere hundreds of copies.

Combined shipping offered at no additional charge if you win more than one item from me, so please check out my other items. I always take great care to package comics well for shipment — my assumption when packing, is that the box will be dropped on its corner by a postal worker, and therefore needs to be protected accordingly. I am a collector like you and I've received my fair (unfair) share of cracked cases. So rest assured, great care will be taken, and the comic will reach you safely; some of my positive response responses include these comments: "The Best Packing I've Ever Seen", "Fast international shipping, bomb-proof packaging", "Lightning fast! Book very well packed, could have survived nuclear attack!"
