Relic Doorstop /bookend Made From Copper Taken From The Uss Constitution In 1927 For Sale
Very Rare and historically important, original, U. S. Navy Relic being a Cast Copper Bookends or Doorstop made of material taken from the USS Constitution during the 1927-1930 restoration. This beautiful Bookend/Doorstop is cast in the form of a ship's wheel and was made from copper taken from parts of "Old Ironsides" which were originally fabricated by Paul Revere's foundry. The Bookend / Doorstop measures approx. 6 1/2" tall and 5 7/8" x 1 1/4" at the base and is VERY heavy. The surface retains its original and beautiful, mottled bronze finish as can be seen in the scans below.
It feature a ship's wheel with a central medallion depicting the USS Constitution under full sail. There is text on the medallion that reads "Old Ironsides" and "U.S. Frigate Constitution". Further text on the central Medallion reads "Launched 1797 / 1804 Tripoli / 1812 Guerriere / 1813 Cyane Levant". Text along the front of the base reads "This Material Was Taken From U.S. Frigate Constitution 1927".
The Revere foundry in Canton Massachusetts produced all of the copper nails, spikes, bolts, pins and sheathing for the USS Constitution and for other early Navy frigates. The Copper used to make this Bookend / Doorstop would have come from some of the items produced by Revere for the Ship!!
This beautiful Cast Copper Bookend / Doorstop a in excellent to near mint condition with no wear or damage of any kind. It retain 100% of its rich, warm mottled bronze surface finish which is 100% original. Overall this beautiful Marine / U. S. Navy related Bookend / Doorstop is exceptionally well preserved and displays beautifully.
