ROMANTIC VINTAGE 1960s FLORAL PRINT LOLITA MAXI LENGTH DRESS with PETER PAN COLLAR & PUFF SLEEVES She’s having a purge on her ‘old’ hippie dresses, most of which seem to have shrunk considerably despite having being stored for quite a while in climate-controlled conditions. This was once a little charmer, correction: Little Charmer – with the accent on the Charmer, but now attention seems to focus more on the Little. Across the bust, it’s a very comfortable 34 to 36 inches as the photos indeed prove, and an equally forgiving 32” empire waistline, complete with ties to gather you in, should you be so small . . . so small, she’d HATE you. It’s the sleeves, you see. There is something about the way women mature (either it’s that or climate-controlled storage ain’t what it used to be); about how they develop and blossom into those creatures we adore after ten years or more (when both our eyesight and our hearing are starting to go :o) that involves the addition of a couple of pounds here and there. Never mind here for a moment but let’s turn our attention to “there”. To the bingo wings. They aren’t called that for nothing, you know. Gay young things, footloose and fancy-free, with all their lives in front of them, don’t know that, one day . . . that one day their arms might . . . Short sleeves, as you can see, with only ten inches for your upper arm. Should you be one of today’s modern women, down at the gym before dawn, working out, weights included, then you are not the sort of gal who’d like to be seen in this dress. If you are waif-like and adore being that way, this dress (silken-smooth pink polyester jersey, patterned with primitive art-style flowers) makes the most of it. The Peter Pan collar, for those who never want to grow up, the slightly puffed-out sleeves, the length (52 inches) that, for all we know, might have reached down to the original wearer’s toes. The fabric looks, in the photos, to have a distinct weave, like it might be slightly rough to the touch. That’s the print doing its job. An effect, nothing more. A charming effect. In the back is a 21” metal zip; a sure sign this dress comes all the way from the dawning of the age of a quarius. (What on earth was a quarius? Wikipedia hasn’t heard of it :o)
