Roseville Futura "ostrich Egg" Deco Vase Pink Green Glaze W/ Branch & Leaf 400-7 For Sale
Offered is aRoseville Futura 'Ostrich Egg' vase designed by Frank Ferrell for the Roseville Pottery Company in 1928. TheArt Decovasehas an open egg form, balanced on a raised square platform base, withfour buttressed feet. The piece stands 7 1/2 inches talland is 5 1/2inchesin diameter. Inresearching the vase, I couldfind no examples withthe combination of pink and light mint green glazes, or the verycomplimentary deco branch and leaf design. The experts will have better knowledge, and ifyou are willing, I would enjoy knowing if the vase is rare or experimental. The leaves mimick the completedshape of the egg and the branches compliment the lines of the vase. The red and green of the foliage compliment the glazes nicely. . . .lovely design. The vase can be displayed with the branches showing, or to the back. . .rather like areversable garment.
I would love to say it is in mint condition, howeverin the distant past, a bump resulted in a tighthairline crack at the rim over the end of the red branch. It is about 1 3/4 inches long, and notat all obvious. I shot the vase in a raking light, so viewers could have a good look. Please see shots 2 & 3. It presents no problem, andis an easyrestoration if desired. Other than that, the piece is in excellent condition, no chips, cracks or repairs to report. There are numbers on the bottom, however I'm uncertain asto what they refer.Feel free to askquestions. As you can see, I'm not an authority however I'llanswer all questionsas best I can.
