Rare & Unusual 19th C. Carved & Painted Tramp Art Hanging Two Door Cupboard:
earlypaintedfolkart Store An exceptional 19th c. tramp art hanging cupboard fresh from a 20+ year collection in Connecticut, c. 1890. The surface is excellent, retaining the original paint with an untouched surface. It has two doors, with two drawers below, the drawers are dovetailed. The case is dovetailed at the top, it also retains the original glue blocksthat hold the crest in place. The inside has three shelves, the bottom two are 6 1/2" high, the top shelf is 7" high. The cupboard measures 28" tall, the top is 23" wide & 7" deep, the base of the cupboard is 5 3/4" deep & the inside is 4" deep, the drawers are 8" wide, 5" deep & 1 3/4" tall. Each drawer has the original brass knob & the original key is still intact for the original lock. This early folk art cupboard is constructed with square & odd shaped nails &the back board is nicely chamfered. The top crest has a large heart in the middle with stars on either side, the doors have diamonds & other carved patterns. Thereare no damages or repairs, I don't believe there are any missing pieces. The drawers slide easily & the doors open perfectly, though they only open partially because the edges of the door & the edge of the cupboard stop it from fully opening. An exceptionalearly example ofAmericanfolk art, offered witha very modest reserve.Pleasesee my other listings for more great examples of early Americana & folk art.
