Rare 15" Late 1800's Antique Nichols Bros. 13 Meat Cleaver Weighs 4 & 1/2 Pounds For Sale
Please look at all 12 pictures before offerding. Please look at my other items, I post new items every few days. All of my items have been stored in a non smoker, air conditioned Arizona household away from direct sunlight. This is a quite rare late 1800's very nice old Nichols Bros. 13 meat cleaver that weighs 4 & 1/2 pounds. I bought this at an antique sale back in 1977 and have never seen another one like it. It's total length is 15 & 1/2" from bolt to tip. As shown in the pictures, " Nichols Bros " was double stamped and offset over the company's logo of an arrow piercing a heart. I'm not sure of the exact date but from the research I have done I found that the Nichols Bros. cutlery company started in the late 1800's as makers of some of America's finest professional cutlery. The blade is hand-forged from some of the finest carbon cutlery steel ever made and the wooden handle is securley fastened to the blade with a big bolt at the end of the handle. Not many old cleaver manufacturers gave this option. I'm not sure what type of wood the handle is but it still has a nice original finish on it still. The brass still has a really nice shine to it but does have some wear marks as shown in pics. Cutting edge of blade is 8" long. From brass ring to end with hole is just under 7 & 1/2". From cutting edge of blade to end with hole is 5 & 3/4". From cutting edge of blade to brass ring is4 & 1/2". Top of blade by brass ring is 1/2' thick steel.Top of blade by hole is 5/16" thick steel. Will not ship outside of the lower 48 United States.
