Rare 1785-1791 Benjamin Wilson Georgian bright cut sterling silver sugar tongs:
$39.99
We are listing these rarely seen 1785-1791 Georgian bright cut sterling silver sugar tongs by the London silversmith Benjamin Wilson. They are marked inside one of the bowls with a duty mark facing right and lion passant, and inside the other bowl with a BW maker\'s mark. This mark was registered in 1785 by London silversmith Benjamin Wilson (see page 388 of Grimwade\'s London Goldsmiths 1697-1837). The silversugartongs website has one other example of tongs attributed to Benjamin Wilson, and notes that it is a rarely seen maker\'s mark. The tongs are 5.25 inches long, nicely decorated (although perhaps slightly over polished over the last 200 years), and in very good condition (I believe a monogram has been erased on the outside of the bow). Please view the closeup pictures and judge for yourself (the tongs have not been professionally polished). A very, very rarely seen pair of tongs.
