Designated the "Eagle with Date" pattern, the design on this button consists of the Federal eagle, a brilliant sun (representing the dawn of a new era) and the original date set for the inauguration. It is inscribed "March the Fourth 1789 Memorable Era." The front of the button is moderately struck with good detail. This is one of the "key" varieties from the series that includes approximately twenty distinct designs. Originally purchased by my consignor in the 1970's at Richard Bourne sales "Bambis Button" sale. Brass variation. A little over 1.5' in diameter. Guaranteed authentic and vintage, not a restrike.
