Very unusual and seldom encountered type of swept hilt rapier which is likely to date from early 1600s era, mounted with an elaborate complex steel guard having distinctive crab-claw like finials and pommel, with a very fine pattern wired grip, all fully intact and solid, showing average patina and pitting to the steel. Wearing a thick and sturdy double grooved blade which is marked to a famous maker Tomas Ayala on one side of ricasso, blade exhibiting light scattered patina and is in excellent condition as the entire rapier.overall 41 1/4" blade 35"
