This sale is for a land deed signed by future President James Buchanan in 1819 when he was a lawyer in Lancaster PA. Buchanan graduated from Dickinson College in 1809 and was admitted to the Bar in 1812. He was a member of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives 1814-1816 and later the US Representative from PA 1821-1831 and later a Senator. Between his terms in the PA Legislature and the US House of Representatives, Buchanan was a successful lawyer in Lancaster and this document is an Indenture (Deed) for 11 Acres and 22 perches of land in the Borough of Strasburg, Lancaster County, PA. Buchanan signed the deed as a witness in the lower left. The deed is written & printed on vellum and has approximate dimensions 15 ¼” x 19”. The overall condition is Fine with old folds, light wear, a small hole and some rubbing on the outer fold (see photo detail.
