Rare 1861 Handwritten Diary Dr. David Chaffee NY Talks Of Lincoln









Handwritten diary year 1861 of Dr. David Chaffee. He was a "Magnetic Healer" Physician and Surgeon. Dr. Chaffee married Louisa Broadwell in 1867, a descendent of Alexander Hamilton. This diary was written while he attended a course in Homeopathic medicine in Cleveland OH. He mentions Lincoln coming to Cleveland on Feb 15th, 1,000s come, Feb 16 Lincoln starts for Buffalo, 1,000s at the depot. He mentions Major Anderson Surrenders on April 12, 1861 the beginning of the Civil War. April 19 Rebels fired on Massachusetts troops as they passed through Baltimore on their way to Washington. Governor said no more troops should pass through and demanded the surrender of Fort Henry but they did not comply. May 8 Public School class today - they ran up the Stars and Stripes this morning in spite of what Bacon orders. Awesome original handwritten diary. Comes with some papers found with it.
