Rare 18th-early 19th C. French Napoleonic Era Pioneer's Saber Sword Circa 1800. For Sale
Rare example of these Massively built sabers used by Pioneers and Sappers of early 1800s era, a very ornate and interesting example, having fine lion face details cast in high relief to both sides of the guard and cross guard finials, typically crowned by a screaming rooster pommel which has few small period losses to the crown. Mounted with a broad slightly curved single edged blade of possibly earlier period, engraved on both sides with a standing Turk warrior, Motto and war trophies assembly, most sabers of these style have serrated back edge, not this one, the back edge is wide and the blade is well balance to be used in combat as well as the verity of other tasks performed by pioneers of the period. Rare and very impressive saber, comes with original brass mounted leather scabbard, in somewhat fragile condition having one not all the way through crack near the tip. overall 38 1/2" blade 29".
