Rare 18thc Meissen Porcelain Kakiemon Chinese Butterfly Plate Porzellan Teller For Sale
For sale is a superb porcelain plate made by Meissen around 1740. A really well handpainted plate with the famous Chinese Butterfly pattern in the early Kakiemon colors which are much nicer than the later ones. The paste also is much nicer than after 1750 as it has a whiteness to it that is hard to explain. The rim has some nice Kakiemon style flowers on it and a brown trim to the edge. This plate is in great condition with a little wear to the center motif, wear to the brown trim on the edge and a wellr estored shallow edge chip that does not take away from the piece! There are some typical early flaws to the piece from the making like underglaze shrinkage lines and a small firing crack. I also showed a picture of my shining a bright light through it to show that early Meissen porcelain has lots of moons in it just like early Chelsea but for some reason Chelsea is famous for it while it is hardly ever mentioned on Meissen even though it is a good way to tell the very early pieces apart from the ones a bit later. The plate is 1.125 inches tall and 8.625 inches in diameter. Marked underneath with the underglaze blue crossed swords mark as shown.
