Rare 1906 SILVER 2-Compartment VESTA CASE Match safe by RP + Whistle = 53 grams
A rather rare, good quality, large and heavy, hallmarked English silver vesta case with an extra compartment. This contains a silver-plated whistle. Scrolling floral patterns decorate the vesta which has a vacant cartouche on the front.
(I wonder if the whistle could have been used for calling ones dog or for help?)
The Birmingham hallmark includes the maker’s mark R.P, the lion passant, the date letter f for 1905-06 and the anchor for Birmingham.
RP is the mark of Robert Pringle & Sons of Clerkenwell Road, London EC1.
The silver-plated whistle that sits in the round compartment weighs about 4.4 grams and is 1.65 inches (42 mm) long x 0.37 (9 mm) diameter. It’s in great condition and whistles loudly!
The vesta case is in good condition but does have a bump to the lid. The hinge and spring are good and the lid snaps shut and fits well.
