Offered is a Rare 1920s D&M Professional Sidewritten Vintage Baseball Bat. This bat has many excellent features. First, it is a Draper and Maynard bat that seems to have made it's way to the Louisville Slugger vaults as it is sidewritten in the style of the factory. It is also a rare D&M Professional model. The center brand is the classic and desirable D&M dog over the diamond "D&M" branding. It is also branded "No. 100". The barrel is branded with "Major League Special" and "Model 52". The side writing is difficult to read but appears to date to 1927. The bat is large at 35" and 36 oz. It is a professional quality bat of the era and feels great to swing. The bat has a great Hornsby style knob that has no missing wood. The handle is cracked but has been repaired nicely and feels stable now. It has no nails or missing wood but the barrel shows some separation. It shows other nicks and scratches common with game used baseball bats. Please see images for condition. Overall, the bat has a desirable D&M dog center brand and lots of great features. It is a rare D&M Professional model, and is side written. It also displays very nicely. It has a LOA as a Professional Model Game Used Bat. When a player broke his bat in the early days of Louisville Slugger, he would send the bat to the factory and the bat makers would archive the bat in the famous Louisville Slugger vault. Most of the bats were Louisville Sluggers, but there were some other brands archived there as well. When the player wanted to order more bats, the bat maker would use the bat in the archive to make a similar bat for the order. When the company was doing renovations, they were going to send all of the archive bats to the trash but they were intercepted and many were saved. Many pro players had lathe or model bats made to specifications but most minor league and lower players relied on archive bats for their orders. Sometimes the bats have parts of the mailing label still attached. It is a bat week and I have some great bats coming up. Please check out my store and save me as a seller!
