Rare 1967 EIGHTH MAN (8TH MAN) Halloween Costume – Japanese Anime
Here's a rare 1967 EIGHTH MAN (TOBOR THE 8TH MAN) Halloween costume. Produced by BEN COOPER. This is early Japanese Anime. This may well be the only item made for the United States retail market. Sold for $1.59 at TWO GUYS back in the day.
Condition: The box shows age and storage wear, but is solid with good color. The window plastic is a bit loose, but there. The vacuform mask is in beautiful shape. The small sized costume has minimal wrinkling. There are a few small spot stains just below the collar area. There are some more on the legs, but they are hard to see on the dark blue. There is also some age darkening of the fabric on the image area. This is typical, especially on lighter colored costumes. This piece had long sleeves at one time. There are seam splits of about 1 inch at the end of each shoulder. This is one of only two of these costumes I've ever seen! Not perfect, but very scarce.
From WIKIPEDIA:
8 Man or Eightman is a fictional manga and anime superhero created in 1963 by science fiction writer Kazumasa Hirai and manga artist Jiro Kuwata. He is considered Japan's earliest cyborg superhero, predating even Kamen Rider (the same year, Shotaro Ishinomori created Cyborg 009), and was supposedly the inspiration for RoboCop.
The manga was published in Weekly Shōnen Magazine and ran from 1963 to 1966. The anime series, produced by Eiken with the TCJ Animation Center, was broadcast on Tokyo Broadcasting System, and ran from November 17, 1963 to December 31, 1964, with a total of 56 episodes (plus the "farewell" special episode, "Goodbye, Eightman").
