Rare 19th C. German Presentation Hunting Sword Dagger With Blued & Gilt Blade:
Beautiful quality German hunting sword from around mid 1800s era, having ornate brass hilt mounts which retained most of the original fire gold finish throughout with just light wear to the gilding, fine grips carved in a eagle head pommel style, having few small age chips and hairlines not threatening to the overall solid condition, lacking one of the flower rivet studs on the back side. The shell guard featuring a resting deer in the forest has an extensive presentation inscription very finely engraved on the back side. Wearing a large straight single edged blade having fabulous blued panels for two thirds of the length, partially worn along the edge but mostly present, with fine gold finished trophies and floral motives, each side having a window with a very finely etched hunting scene, surface patina to the rest of the blade. Solid and overall intact, this impressive quality large hunting sword surely deserves further research and a good place in an advanced collection. overall 28 3/4" blade 23 1/2"
