Rare ANTIQUE Solid Silver HEAVY MUG TANKARD 1916 Hallmarked Sterling ASPREY NR
IT IS NOT ENGRAVED - 6+ troy oz. - ASPREY & GARRARD
This is a superb VINTAGE, almost ANTIQUE solid sterling silver HALF PINT TANKARD or MUG which was made in London, England in 1916, by the famous Victorian silversmith, Sebastian Henry Garrard of R. & S. Garrard & Company at their Haymarket workshops and retailed by ASPREY & COMPANY of London. It has a superb tapering shape and has a lovelysolid scroll handle. It has a stunning band to the sides and is raised on a substantial skirt base. It measures2 5/8" in diameter across the base,3 3/8" in diameter at the lip,over 41/2" from from handle to lip and stands 3 1/8" high. It is VERY substantial - it weighs195.2 grams -over 6 1/4 troy oz. It is NOT engraved.
It is hallmarked to the side with SG, lion passant (sterling silver assay mark),leopard head, ashowing that it was hallmarked in London in 1916 and is etched Asprey London underneath the base. It is in very good condition with less than the usual surface scratching,NO repairs or splits with NO compression to the base and almost NO dings and NO dentsand NO distortion - it is a remarkable piece of quality silver work - SUPERB. I've shown the hallmarks so you can make up your own mind. A really super rareASPREY & GARRARD tankard in superb condition afteralmost 100years at a very low start - this is a really valuable piece!!!
