Rare Antique 19th C Trephine. Skull Boring Tool Made By Devilbiss:
$52

The antique trepanning tool will date to around the late 19th century. It is made partly from plated brassand also The De Vilbiss company was founded in Toledo, Ohio in 1888and this trepanning tool would have been manufactured not long after that. I can find no record of further surgical tools being manufactured by this company and that is probably not surprising as this trephine is of poor design. The central locating trocar used to initiate the drilling of the skull does not appear to have a locking device when in the extended position, unlike other designs.Instead the trocar has either to be turned at right angles or another tool inserted to keep it in the extended However this probably means that Devilbiss trephines are rare.

It is about 11cm in length and there are a few scratches and the plating has worn away in places.

Postage to Europe is postage to Rest of World is £12-50.
