Rare Antique Casper Co. Whiskey Stoneware Jug Winston-salem N.c. Rare For Sale
This is an extremely rare, Casper Whiskey Company Stoneware Jug. This mail order jug was distributed from John Casper whiskey plant in Winston-Salem, NC sometime in the late 1800's to early 1900's.
John Casper was a great salesman and boasted that his mail order whiskey was the lowest priced as well as the best. North Carolina had many anti-drinking activists and soon tightened up the laws on John and banned the sale of mail order whiskey in 1906. Casper then moved his businessto Roanoke, VA and in 1913 closed the business due to strict laws which crippled his business.
This antique jug comes from the NC plant. It has a light blue stamp on the front that reads: FROM THE CASPER CO. WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. LOWEST PRICE WHISKEY HOUSE WRITE FOR CONFIDENTIAL LIST.
The jug measures approximately 13 inches from the bottom of the jug to the top of its' wire handle. It is approximately 7 inches at its' thickest point and it has a corn cob for its' stopper.
The jug has a small chip on the bottom but is overall very sound and is in great condition for its' age. It's extremely hard to find and is a really nice Casper Whiskey collectable. They simply do not make any more of these jugs!
