Rare Antique Early New England Paint Decorated Shorebird Decoy, C. 1880-1900 Nr:
An exceptional early New England spotted shorebird decoy, retaining much of its original painted surface, C. 1880-1900. This shorebird has an unusual applied wing design, with some light feather carvings. The bird has some scattered shot spray, otherwise it isin excellent untouched condition with no other damage or repairs. The detail in this carving is incredible & the paint decoration is amazing. This early shorebird decoy was found on Long Island & possibly originated here or in New England.It is quite large, measuring 14" long from tail to beak, 7" tall to the top of the head, the body and tail are 9" long & the depth is just shy of 2" including the applied wings.
