Rare Antique Circa 1870 English Transferware Pitcher, The Minstrels Band For Sale
Rare English Transferware Pitcher Black Americana.Very Rare English Transferware Pitcher circa 1870 featuring a "Minstrels" band! I found this piece at an estate sale and thought it was very unusual. After doing some research, I discovered that very few of these have sold in the last 10 years. The pitcher is fascinating depicting a group of Minstrels merrily playing their musical instruments and singing a spirited rendention of DIXIE the age ol lyrics, "I WISH I WS IN DIXAY LAND I O" & perhaps an ol English folk song "SALLY IS THE GIRL FOR ME". The condition is remarkable, with little wear noted. I took a number of photos for potential buyers. The handle appears to show possible color handling wear. Notice a few age induced stress cracks on the inner handle, a testament to the age of this piece. You can see the early manufacturing process vertical seam running the length of the pitcher. The Minstrels are in remarkable shape, bright vivid deep colors throughout, notice the hand painted yellows and reds. The blue & gold roped tapestry is on both the inside and outside of the spout, notice the 1870 Registry Mark under the pitcher's handle. The instruments, the expressions, the colors, the history, a simply amazing piece for the serious collector. The pitcher stands 8" tall and the base is 3" in diameter. Please ask any questions you may have, I will insure this for the buyer, thanks for looking!
