Rare Art Deco Goldscheider Wien 'blue Lace Dancer' Signed Lorenzl C.1935 For Sale
A Rare Austrian, 'Goldscheider Wien',Porcelain 'Blue Lace Dancer', signed by Josef Lorenzl, circa 1935.
Josef Lorenzl was one of the most famous and prolific sculptors of the Art deco period. He produced figurative pieces in both bronze, spelter and porcelain, where he worked along-side Stephan Dakon in the famous Austrian Goldscheider factory. His pieces depicted the style and elegance of the period, where hisfemale dancers, with their slim elongated almost boy-like features, found fame throughout Europe and the rest of theworld. His sense of oppulence and sexual liberation, reflected the revolution in society of the roaring nineteen twenties and thirties!
The Goldscheider Foundryset the standards and style for Art Deco ceramics whichfound fameall over the world - creating some of the most beautiful and striking models, which continue to be very much in demand to the present day. They had the most famous of Art Deco sculptors working and designing for them, most notably 'Lorenzl', which this paticular piece is by.
This paticular pieceisquite a rare model, due to her dramatic shape in the movement of her dance, and her intricate lace-pattern dress. She is featured in the Goldscheider catalogue by Ora Pinhas on page 155, with the more standard floral decoration. This lace dress seems to add more of a rique-quality to her sculpting, accentuating the elongated legs in mid-dance,almost see-through in look, adding to the realism & movement of the piece! Her sculptingis full of energy and grace, with a beautifullyhand-painted face, full of sublime-joy in expression, wind-swept hair, loving her own dancing performance! She is in perfect condition, with no damage, chips or crazing! Remarkable for her age!
She stands an elegant 220mm's tall by 75mm's deep and 170mm's long.
